"22
January 1796, William Mitchell willed to his son, Cader, his heirs, and assigns forever
one pair of heavy-duty millstones. Williams great-grandson, Cader Daniel Mitchell,
built a water mill in 1845 on Station Creek using these millstones. Williams great,
great, great, great great-grandson Dennis Mitchell now owns this stone. 30 July 1996."

The
Mitchell family has been in the farming business for more than 200 years. These fertile
lands, along the famous Three-Chopped-Way Indian trail and historic Old Jackson Military
Road, are where Dennis and Nelda Mitchell continued the family farming tradition in 1960
with cotton as their main crop, and a herd of beef cattle. Later, they branched out with
peanuts, corn, wheat, soybeans and vegetables. In 1980 they decided to grow U-pick
gardens. Starting small, the farm's U-pick operation has grown into a burgeoning business,
where a wide variety of vegetables: tomatoes, okra, peas, butterbeans, cucumber,
canteloupe, watermelon, corn, and blueberries are available in abundance ... when in season. In addition, Mitchell Farms grows
500 acres of peanuts. Fresh green peanuts are available late July - November, and dried
peanuts from September - December.
Not only will visitors to Mitchell Farms enjoy tasty,
fresh vegetables, but a tour of authentic pioneer structures will take them on a journey
into the past. The Mitchell's old log cabin, built over 100 years ago, is filled with
fascinating memorabilia, antiques, cooking utensils, photographs, and rope beds with
patchwork quilts. Other structures include the old smoke house, out house, playhouse, and
the latest addition - a large cedar cabin. Discover the intricate woodcarvings of Nelda
Mitchell ... farm scenes, fauna and wildlife carvings can be seen throughout the farm, in
her home, and the playhouse.

busy activities to tell a story about an interesting piece. |
