Today, Mitchell Farms embraces approximately 1,500 acres, located deep in the piney woods of southeast Mississippi, very near the Leaf River. If you know the area, the farm is close to the intersection of the old Jackson Military Road, and Leaf River Church Road.
The farm was started about 50 years ago. We grow peanuts, vegetables, blueberries, corn, wheat, soybeans, and have the Mitchell Farms Pumpkin Patch in the fall. The rest is utilized with a variety of crops, including our beautiful U-Pick vegetable gardens.

Mitchell Farms is owned by Dennis and Nelda Spell Mitchell, their son Don Mitchell, and his wife Jo Lynn Mitchell. Dennis and Nelda have three children, Don, Dale, and Beverly.
Beverly Mitchell Bakalyar, whose home is in Tampa, Florida, returns home in the summers to run the U-Pick Vegetable garden and helps out wherever possible. Dale Mitchell and his wife Charlotte are both registered nurses, and have their own farm and cattle operation in Seminary, MS.

There are also a couple of full time employees, and a good number of seasonal workers that are required to put and bring in the harvest.
You'll find several grandchildren around at various times, especially when things are busy, and you'll always find Lauren and Jared (Don and Jo Lynn's two older children) helping out. Jacy is a little young yet to be much help, but she sure knows how to model fresh vegetables!
